Re: Sony is shifting direction.

Playstation network subscriptions are a very steady source of income for Sony, they still need a Playstation though.

Re: Youyota Tablet Contact

FYI I also like the tablet, for the reason you mention. But there are many Web sites that crash the browser, I think because they have too complex pages and need a lot of memory to display. (Those...

Re: Youyota Tablet Contact

Yes and the sad thing is that the UI of SailfishOS 2 is very suited to tablets. Perhaps even more than to phones.

It would work better on more modern hardware with more memory than the Jolla...

Re: Rostelecom investment in Jolla

Today, they're the only non-IOS/non-Android OS that's still around, and still far from being big business. They need to make money to survive, and apparently they're moving in the right direction, ...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

N900 -> N9 -> Jolla 1

Have an unused Jolla C as backup, looking to go to XPeria XA2 when it ships.

Re: Youyota Tablet Contact

Maybe they could get more orders, if the previously committed funds and any new funds for additional 2K orders were in some locked escrow account that only unlocked after the company delivered the...

Re: Youyota Tablet Contact

I also don't need a tablet, but it's a useful separate device. I use it for Spotify (yeah that's Android I know) using Bluetooth to my speakers in my living room and in my kitchen to look up...

Thanks for the web.archive link. That original version supports my comment a few posts earlier.

Re: Youyota Tablet Contact

It looks like Jolla was right to never endorse this product, they never even mentioned it. In hindsight, they were right.

Cheng, I invested in this because based on the response here you...

Re: MWC2018 news

Actually, isn't it the case large-enough governments can get full source code access to most operating systems, even Windows, under appropriate non-disclosures and other conditions etc?

Re: Jolla - alike, or how Jolla adopted the Google's anti-open-source practices.

I think they did Sailfish OS 2.0 because of the tablet, and I personally think it worked well. I find 2.0 a big improvement over the 1.* on both my Jolla phone and tablet. It's the one UI that works...

Re: [Live] Youyota 2-in-1 Tablet

I may be missing something, but the last update at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/youyota-sailfish-os-2-in-1-tablet/#/updates/all is from Oct 29, 2017 9:05AM. Where are you looking?

Re: [Live] Youyota 2-in-1 Tablet

Thanks for the update. I have a Jolla tablet and am one of the backers for this tablet, if only to have a spare.

If Youyota manages to produce actual products, I'm sure they will be able to...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

New blog post:

https://blog.jolla.com/happy-2018/

Two new Sony Xperia devices will be supported: the dual-SIM X, and a "to-be-announced next generation device".

I'm probably going for the...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Yes, and Xperia X is increasingly hard to buy.

I also wish Jolla or some other company would start a business selling Xperias with Sailfish pre-installed.

Re: Would you buy/use Nokia N900 in 2018?

It's been years since I used my N900. It worked great as a phone, and had Skype built-in which also worked very well. It felt nice and sturdy in the hand (but thick and heavy in your pocket). No 4G...

Re: SailfishOS on Sony Z3 Compact Tablet

Fantastic to hear this. SailfishOS looked great on the Jolla tablet, even better than on phones IMHO. The only problem was apps failing due to memory issues. Better hardware like this Z3 should fix...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Yes I would like to see this automated before using it. And I'm a Linux using IT guy. I'd recommend something like Fabric (fabfile.org) to automate the scripting. That would work on Windows and...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Yes, my point was that the VM option at least means you don't need to have a separate computer with a Windows host OS.

A dual boot configuration would also solve the issue of course.

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

I suspect that Windows in a VirtualBox under Linux will work. The only tricky thing is to configure the USB connected device to be handled by the VM rather than the host. But I got that working...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

I think they will have to start looking at other Sony devices anyway. The Xperia X is selling out rapidly, so even if there would be a huge demand, soon there will be no stock available.
