Re: How many of you still use N900 as main phone?

Been using my N900 as primary since I bought it when it first came out (can't remember when anymore).

Just last summer, replaced the back cover with a new one, cost me 15€. Also got a brand new...

Re: Increase in rude and/or ignorent people lately

Someone should make that game.

(I know, I'm a bit late with this)

Re: Hacking with Maemo to cut users off network

Yes, and the correct course of action is to ask the network administration to throttle bulk traffic. I'm not sure how effective ARP-spoofing based "kicking" is for preventing this, since it can go...

Re: What is missing in this photo we "all" know?

Screen protector, easily seen looking at the close-up picture near the ear speaker and camera.

Re: Can n900 capture sounds below 20Hz(inaudible to humans)?????

Yes. And because of the aliasing that would be caused by frequencies above the nyquist limit, those freqs are (mostly) filtered out before digitizing the signal, either by the mic design or an analog...

Re: should d**kheads who anonymously troll via tags have their tagging privileges revoked?

Everyone being able to tag (i.e. over 300 posts) should be banned. No one who is posting that much can possibly keep up good quality in his posts, and thus is not contributing to the true purpose of...

Re: Buy nokia shares today! 3/16/2011

Dividends are usually so low compared to stock price, that they don't make much difference.

Unless, of course, you can afford to buy a huge amounts of stock, or you plan to keep it for long term...

Re: Silly small python question: task in a non blocking way?

You use threads for that.

Here's something to get started, and to find more keywords to google for:

But beware, multithreaded...

Re: N900 SD slot not functioning, missing entry in /dev

It works if the problem is that the magnet fell off from the back cover. But if the sensor that detects that magnet is broken (which appears to be the case with OP), it won't help.

Re: Massive interactivity improvement under high I/O load!

Tried it a few times (twice by accident, forgetting that I had swap on SD, once on purpose to test the effect), every time the system either hung or reset (can't remember which one). I don't think...

Re: Warning! Possibily troll invasion!

Yup, and particularly not from some random guy posting stuff at some random forum.

It's also a case in point for necessity of the repository QA process, and why most people should not have devel...

For OP:

Publishing something opens the door for receiving feedback. The feedback may be positive or negative. Also a single piece of feedback is typically describing only one individual's...

Re: How Iphone, Android and Blackberry Users See Each Other

For a pro photographer, everything that's shot with equipment worth under $3000 probably looks equally crap before photoshop.

Unless, of course, you have some source to cite for this pro opinion.

Re: browser does not load pages

Are you sure?

Both processes are automatically restarted when they get killed, and when checking ps after killing them you probably see the newly started processes already.

Check the process...

Re: Pybattery - battery statusbar applet with candies

I have an educated guess for the reason and type of conflict here.

The easiest (and only?) way to read values from BME is through HAL. One could run a `lshal | grep...

Re: browser does not load pages

I'm having the same issue, still in PR1.3. No better fix than `killall browser;killall browserd`. Curiously, both must be done in order to get it unstuck, just one is not enough.

I tried looking...

Exclamation POSIX time is cool!

POSIX time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POSIX_time) (or Unix time) is a time notation, where time is represented as second since Epoch (00:00:00, 1 Jan 1970 UTC). It is used as a base of timekeeping...

Re: Why Cached mail is not encrypted on the N900 device???

Here's some entropy counts for different password lengths, assuming [0-9A-Za-z] 62 character alphabet, and brute force times (assuming 1ns/attempt, which is quite fast unless you go distributed):

Re: Why Cached mail is not encrypted on the N900 device???

(Edit: OK, we're probably talking about different things, I...

Re: Why Cached mail is not encrypted on the N900 device???

That would be the only proper solution, however the "every time" part can be relaxed a bit. The password could be asked every time the app is started for example (and that would mean no automatic...

For this kind of work, CSS is the most painless way:

(It's also very cool, since it contains NO uppercase characters AT...

Re: change regular user to bash shell?

My favorite is Ctrl+r for 'reverse-i-search', where you can type in any part of a previous command, and the shell will look it up for you.

That alone is enough reason to install bash (to me at...
