Well, it happened right after boot up. Maybe somehow it didn't boot properly. After some reboots it worked, after some more the problem returned. Quite random.

I tried rebooting a few times and did have the calls working.

I always flash EMMC first (no -R), then take battery out, then rootfs.
So for your suggestion, I did this if I understand it correctly:
_flash combined (no -R)
_continue flash vanilla (no -R)...

Got the answer: Replace the file "transp" in /usr/share/icons/default/cursors with a visible cursor. But it's still not showing in preenv games.
