You don't really know what "being optified" means, do you?
A maemo package is optified when it places its larger files (e.g. media files, icons, ...) under /opt.

That won't work. According to gianko's message, Yappari/WhatsApp sends smileys as embedded pictures while in an SMS, the smiley will be sent as an actual smiley, like ":-)". The message would be...

AFAIK, not without changing the CSSU's dependencies. (see https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12203)

In the meantime you can try upgrading for any apt action and manually downgrading again...

Does Sharp66's reply make this any clearer? The N900 doesn't have a viewfinder, so you can't use that to project the image onto the paper. So what Sharp66 wants is the transparent image layer on top...

If you modify some scripts a little, maemo recognises and mounts ext* partitions, and camera-ui2 has no trouble saving to them.

This has been a problem from the beginning. Workarounds are using macro (or whatever it's called) mode (the one with the flower as the symbol) and simply re-trying to focus, but neither are 100%...

No. These kind of incompatibilities are usually caused by incompatible codecs, especially since Linux <-> N900 works.
camera-ui2 doesn't interfere with the front camera at all, if nothing drastic...

The functionality camera-ui2 provides is a feature, and so are the regressions it introduces. The CSSU has a hard dependency on it, so camera-ui2's features become CSSU features.

I never installed the power kernel and had this problem intermittently since the day I got my N900, so I doubt the power kernel is to blame...
