Re: disabling ssh server on n900

There is the following package in Ubuntu/Debian for this :-
upstart-compat-sysv - compatibility for System-V-like init

I suspect the idea is to move away from sys-v and just use upstart...

Re: Openvpn on n900 not connecting

You'll need to run openvpn as root; presumably why openvpn didn't work the first time without the PATH as /usr/sbin is probably not in user's PATH.

Re: disabling ssh server on n900

From an xterminal try :-

ps -ef | grep sshd
<kill all the processeses>
/etc/init.d/sshd start
/etc/init.d/sshd stop
ps -ef | grep sshd

Does it stop it now - if so it may have been a pid...

Re: disabling ssh server on n900

man update-rc.d on a Linux box or google for it:-
update-rc.d - install and remove System-V style init script links
Given upstart doesn't use system-v links (rc2.d etc.) unless the...

Re: n900, email and openvpn - sweet

Well if there is no active connection then I assume openvpn will fail after pinging for a little while (ping/ping-exit options), then sleep for ping-restart seconds (defaults to 120) before...

Re: disabling ssh server on n900

It seems sshd is started by upstart so removing the rc2.d link won't work. I know little about upstart but sshd is started from /etc/event.d/sshd so it might be possible to change the exec line to a...

Re: n900, email and openvpn - sweet

Thanks.

My mistake - network daemons are supposed to be started using /etc/network/if-up.d scripts now, see README.Debian. The Wifi/3G networks are not configured in interfaces, presumably...

Re: n900, email and openvpn - sweet

Not bothered with the GUI personally but I've voted for openvpn. My only problem currently is figuring out automatic startup after a reboot. I've no experience with upstart so haven't quite worked...

Re: More testers needed to push apps out of extras-testing

I assumed -devel is for "release early, release often" for those comfortable with having to flash their N900s if, or more likely when, these go wrong. Once the developer is satisfied that his package...

Re: More testers needed to push apps out of extras-testing

It would be useful if this page allowed some sort of sorting or filtering or at least displaying all packages in testing so one could use ones browser's search to look for packages.

I've been...

Re: n900, email and openvpn - sweet

I suggest starting at http://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/documentation.html , probably starting with the HOWTO.

BUT remember installing applications from extras-devel may cause serious problems for your N900. If you do try it remember to disable extras-devel as soon as it is installed.

Re: Battery Drains Way Too Fast (No Wifi/Skype/Email on at all)
