they couldnt fix it :( they reported the pads had been ripped off the mainboard and it was 'beyond...

i had a go, but didn't win - i think the whole usb port needs replacing as it has buckled and won't sit flush with the underlying pcb. i posted some more photos here (scroll down a bit):...

thanks for replying TheoX - i think im gonna have a bash at fixing it myself :o

i went to maplins today to buy a soldering iron etc - only theyve sold me the wrong type of tips for the soldering...

hiya - is this the current advice regarding fixing a broken usb port?

my usb port broke ages ago (like, years) but i never bothered to fix it... the other weekend i bricked my n900 :'( by doing...

all fine apart from a slight lighter blotch in the center of screen (have to look for it)

usb port is fine (tho im careful)
no dead pixels
slider is solid
