I regularly open files from my NAS on my N900, but to date I haven't figured out how to save files there, as there is no option in any of the N900's save dialogue windows... is it all just one-way...

I had this problem as well. Leave a bit more time between pulling the power lead out and pressing the on button. I think the phone just needs a little time to get itself sorted.
