Exactly. I was just scrolling over the same webpage using an ipod touch, and performance was pretty much the same.
If i scroll at those speeds(wich is useless, 'cause nobody can read that fast :P )...

Afaik Nokia doesn't support the IR at all.
I believe there is an application Irreco, but i don't know how well it works.

you CAN login as root, but you aren't by default.
As it is in (all) linux distro's.
