Currently, I think your best bet to have a true Linux based phone that is usable within the next year is Librem 5. It is debian based, great attention paid to security, should run many linux...

Unfortunately no white bar. First see brief message like "one moment" then get Jolla splash screen. Then screen goes dark, maybe a slight haze. That's it. After about an hour and half I powered it...
