Re: [WTS] Nokia N900 | EU Only

In my opinion, the most convincing feature of this particular N900 is the qwerty keymat with four cursor keys, which also seems to be in pretty good condition.

Too bad, the photo isn't focussed...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Well, exactly that's the problem. This statement about reducing the desktop resolution for temperature reasons makes absolutely no sense.

Re: Purism Librem Phone

The SoC is an i.MX 8M. [1] The internal display is almost certainly connected via DSI, via which the SoC could theoretically output 4k signals while it's supposed to be able to decode h.264 and h.265...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

The same is true for a 1:1 pixel ratio. So this doesn't count as an argument for the 2:1 ratio.

With all due respect, I believe that's a made-up argument that one of your tech guys mentioned as a...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I don't know about Android phones, but I guess Purism does what it's doing, because as a small company with no influence on hardware parts manufacturers, they have to take what they can get.
If we...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I wouldn't say that. At the native resolution, the Librem5's DPI is only slightly higher than that of the N900, but scaled by factor 2 it is much lower:N900 (3.5" 800x480): 266.56 PPI
Librem5 native...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

720/2=360; 1440/2=720

Basically what they do is take a 2x2 square of hardware pixels and treat it like 1x1 pixel in software. It's like scaling up a picture in a picture viewer by x2 of if you...

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

You're both right and wrong.
I largely agree with this statement of RMS you linked and I also agree with pichlo about FLOSS not being inherently more trustworthy than CSS.
However, BECAUSE trust is...

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

Well, I admit I was quite irritated, especially because I didn't expect such a broadside from you, who I consider a reasonable discussion partner.
But, no, I didn't feel offended.

Sure, I see...

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

Then why don't you just do that? Listen (read carefully)!

I never claimed, that those (theoretical) benefits are always, without fail, realized in practice.

You actually have to turn the theory...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I'm kind of scratching my head here.

So they build a device with almost twice the screen diagonal of the N900, (due to scaling) they still have a lower resolution, and on top of that...

... which are all based on code too.

This part is true ...

... but that part is only true for CS.
With OS you have the choice who that "someone" is you just mentioned.

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

Thanks for giving most of the answers to your questions yourself!

The code is always doing exactly what it says. That's the beauty of formal languages. The only questions are, whether you know...

Well, finally. It fits their philosophy. I've been waiting for this switch basically since their anouncement of Office 365, which turned writing simple text documents into SaaSS [1].

Re: Computer History Museum in Silicon Valley seeking N770

Isn't that kind of expected from a museum in the US?

Robotron computers

Robotron was the leading computer manufacturer in the...

Re: Can anybody REALLY help me?

Actually, yes.

I try to see the absurdity of human existance for what it is, and then to defy it by trying to live a life that is still both fun and guided by moral principles.

This...

Re: Can anybody REALLY help me?

Pointless!
Roughly 30 years ago, an IT-cosmologist has observed, that there can't be a thing that "no one can miss":

He has yet to be proven wrong.

Currently I have no sound, so maybe this is answered in the video:

Same here. I just clicked it away when creating this thread, so I assumed everyone else has either done that a long time ago, or has become blind for it.

2016/2017 coding competition notice

Hi,

if you visit talk.maemo.org unregistered, you'll still see the notice about the 2016/2017 coding competition at the very top of each page:

I'm sure most of you have clicked that notice away...

Certainly worth a try, but I guess, jonwil would already have tried that.
