Re: N900 daily Work in 2017?

Browsed maemo.org for the first time in a couple years today because i miss a lot of things from my N900 (most lately in focus was Conboy, as i tried again to find a note taking program for android i...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

Okay, after using this phone camera for awhile, what really drives me bonkers about the camera in the MT4GS is that it doesn't have a cover like the N900 did. The lens ends up covered with skin...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

It's a matter of preference then. I'd rather have to apply pressure to register an input.

BTW I've not ever had a resistive display fail that way.

I've posted a bit about trying to reproduce...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

Yeah that's another issue. N900 is the shortest-lived PDA device i've owned over the last 13 years. My Zaurus SL-C860 lasted 5 years and if i hadn't spilled water on it in the lab and ruined a couple...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

Yeah the Neo900 is out of my price range and it's not available now, so there are two strikes against it. Furthermore, it will still be dog slow with that hardware. After playing around with this...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

Hmm i've been thinking that i miss the precise resistive screen. I'm still not sure what people dislike about it but i definitely don't like not being able to use my nail and/or stylus for more...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

Alright. I bought a MyTouch 4G Slide off Ebay for around $75. It has two years newer hardware tech than the N900 and is one of the last QWERTY slider phones of any quality that will work on my...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

Hmm. Yeah it looks like a pretty nice bit of hardware but seems that it is yet to be hacked for US GSM use. :/

There is this...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

Hmm just doesn't seem a good match except for the notetaking aspect. Too big for my taste but i'll see if i can find a friend that has one and give it a try.

Yet there are almost no HWKB...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

I've been reading reviews of Blackberry OS 10 and it induces a bit of deja vu from when i discovered Maemo. Talk of how it's a much more secure and sophisticated OS, etc.

Interesting comment i...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

Thanks, really appreciate your comments. I'll take a look at the new BB and see how it looks. Never thought i'd take BB seriously as an OS...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

I can understand the sentiment, and was willing to do that when it was a newer device and the "next model" was expected in the near future, but with the product line essentially dead and the...

What have former N900 owners moved to?

So i've been through 1.9 N900s. Both began their decline with a connection problem in the screen/backlight (something in that connection seems to be especially susceptible to high humidity), but the...

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

Ah the problem only occurs if i start it in while in portrait orientation. No errors from console there so it might be a design decision for layout purposes. I could have sworn i restarted in...

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

I've recently switched to a different N900 due to usb problems on my original, and decided to update to stable CSSU. i just discovered that the global search in conboy doesn't work. Typing when on...

Re: Navit on N900

Search back through the thread to one of my earlier posts of instructions to see what it said about garmin. If i recall correctly garmin support is either almost useless or removed from navit at this...

Just guessing but did you kill the existing instances of navit or reboot? This is probably the same issue i described somewhere back in the thread that is encountered when closing the app with the...

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

Actually, i think that's what i tried to do for the SDLMAME --> MAME transition (option one in that link). IIRC, the problem is exactly the caveat described there in the link: the maemo apt handlers...

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

Hey guys, i'm glad to see this MAME port still getting use. I had full intentions of releasing new versions from upstream as they became available, but i finally moved across the country and...

Re: [Conversations] WIP: Fix Conversations (SMS) send problem with database

Thanks again for the triage report, friesoft. The other "solutions" floating around didn't work, but i copied the database

to MyDocs and then connected...

Re: [Conversations] WIP: Fix Conversations (SMS) send problem with database

This has just happened to me for the second time. it seems to tend to happen when the N900 gets frozen and has to be power cycled (typically during processing by Panorama or BlessN900), presumably...

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v47

You can buy a new N900 and hope that its processor handles voltages it wasn't advertised to work at. The very underlying premise of overclocking/undervolting is that some processors perform better...

Re: [devel] PocketSphinx for Fremantle (Speech Recognition Engine)

Good to see this getting some attention after it was passed over for the GSoC last year *.

Re: Should MeeGo developers continue to publish info on this forum for maemo users (wrt Nokia device support)?

That's a reasonable criticism that i can appreciate. Thanks for your post.

Re: [Announce] modRana: a flexible GPS navigation system

Hi MartinK

I was put off by modrana not being vector-based originally (and was trying to use Navit at the time because it IS). I don't have a data plan, so the ability to have everything stored...
