I think that vin numbers and imei codes are quite different by their nature. Even though the both are "unique identification numbers", a vin number would be like imei only if it was possible to track...

Maybe you could try to open a reverse tunnel from n900 to laptops ssh server.

on n900 do:

ssh -R localhost:3333:localhost:22 someuser@server.ip

on laptop do:

ssh -p 3333 root@localhost
