Sounds like some other hardware/components is damaged then(?), otherwise try SSH to the device if installed. Also, try to plug it into another computer just to exclude that there is smthn wrong with...

Arite, but still, Synaptic has some features which cannot be found in fapman. Tho didnt no fapman could update pkg's like that (?), might be 'cus I dun no much abt that part at all. :)

Tests: Disable Wifi-network and Wifi-searches, disable all repositorys in HAM, boot w/o SIM or SD-card, Flight/offlinemode, GSM connection only etc.

Well, yeah kinda, but still, do you buy an N900 just to use some GUI's? I no I would not - ye gotta love the terminal, even tho its stripped down a bit, sadly enough. A good quick app, nonetheless.

a fast, incredibly dumb answer (well almost, maybe), is that you ave to put in yer lock-code to lock the device, so taht the random lad at work wont lock it up for good.
