I was wondering the same.
there are only a few devices with hardware qwerty keyboard.
I prefer the nokia E7-00. Nokia will sent the phone to me because they cant fix my n900. HTC and sony ericson...

I send A email to nokia, to tell them I won;t accept a N8.
they offerd me an E7 as replacement.
last monday, the phone story called me that my phone was there....

Yes, you can try to flash only ther kernel
use this with the flasher:
flasher-3.5 -f --flash-only=kernel -R -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin

by the latest sccu update I had to flash the kernel because he woudn't boot. now I run the stock kernel.
But still no alarm when phone is off.
either, I can't find the original worldclock...

I did back up with the maemo backuptool. but when it was almost finished, the n900 went into a boot loop. it was end of the story.
I had to reflash the kernel to get it on again

I installed the baterypatch with the repos
then I overklocked it to 750
and now I was wondering if everything works fine now?!

Hi,

The alarm of the n900 wont go off when the phone is off.
Just get the nokia screen, the error tune and then nothing:(
I use powerkernel v48 and worldclock(portrait mode)

its no good you deleted hildon-desktop because its part of interface of the N900.
Im not an experd but you can flash just only the os. without flashing the whole emmc.

Yes, tracker-processes -r was accepted by xterminal but didn't fix the problem:( any new ideas?
