Re: Purism Librem Phone

What exactly is it that will be lacking support? Purism plan to mainline everything so it shouldn't matter how niche the product is. Linus' rule of "don't break userspace" means the longevity...

More importantly, does it have Super Cow Powers? (https://bugs.launchpad.net/nubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/56125)

Re: Darwin/ARM running on a Nokia N900

Apple recently open sourced the XNU kernel on ARM. (https://techcrunch.com/2017/10/01/apple-open-sourced-the-kernel-of-ios-and-macos-for-arm-processors/) Will Darwin on the N900 see a revival?

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Don't think I'm giving a penny more to Neo900 UG until there's a product ready to purchase. ;) $600 for a non-existent product is much more money than Neo900 UG ever asked me for, especially when...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Pretty much what r0kk3rz said. The key things here are the hardware monitors and how the device reacts to rogue activity. The Neo900 can watch the radio for any unexpected activity, it can watch...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

A sandbox provides a highly controlled environment. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by serial port or how it would work but the Librem 5 product description mentions nothing this, nothing of a...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I hope so, but they don't mention anything about a sandboxing and monitoring the baseband on their campaign. If they are going to do this, it's kind of a big feature to leave out of the product...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I wouldn't advertise it as a feature at all. Separating the modem from the SoC doesn't guarantee anything (https://blog.replicant.us/2014/03/unveiling-the-samsung-galaxy-back-door/). They claim...

Re: It's the final countdown!

I guess I am now. I only installed i3 a couple of weeks ago, but I think I'm going to stick with it. I've never been much of a distro hopper, or desktop environment hopper for that matter. I had...

Re: It's the final countdown!

Interesting. I'd like to know more. My experience is quite the opposite. I've found Linux (the kernel) to very stable, even on non-LTS releases. I can't say the same about Linux userspace but...

Re: It's the final countdown!

Who cares about logging in? That should be the least of his worries. You'd think he'd be more sorry about the stability issues in older versions of Windows. Maybe if we didn't have to use...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

You could well be right there, however this sounds very similar to what Nokia introduced back in 2009 with the N900 when they allowed us associate accounts for SIP, Jabber, Skype, Google Talk, etc....

Re: Changes with Google Drive

I wouldn't say that Jolla apps are a good representation FOSS, in fact those that depend on Jolla's proprietary Silica components probably can't even be considered to be FOSS. If it were Debian,...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I was referring to the Neo900 project, not the device. I know there is still a possibility that it may fail and we may never see the device but as I can still see regular, recent updates to their...

Re: N900 daily Work in 2017?

Indeed. Why bother with writing an app? VNC should work fine. You can even use Xzibit (https://github.com/tthurman/xzibit) to share only the web browser window instead of the whole desktop. What...

I've been considering backing this project too. I'm somewhat sceptical on whether they can deliver and I have my doubts as to whether they will reach their goal.

Firstly, their campaign is...

Re: The new QWERTY device project

I'm not 100% certain on this but as far as I'm aware, TI are still making OMAP SoCs. It's true that they're no longer designing new chips but I believe they are still producing old ones.

The...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

Fair enough. I made a donation and you're free to do whatever you like with it. It's just a shame that you didn't define how THIS interest works at the time that I placed my donation.

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

I just noticed this on the FAQ (http://neo900.org/faq#donation-interest) on the Neo900 website:

That's not how monthly interest works. Monthly interest is accumulative, meaning that the 2% is...

No, we don't have anything else but I don't think that's a valid excuse to embrace a broken solution. We're going over old ground here. I made this point...

A website that doesn't use JavaScript to automatically call google-analyitics.com which helps Google to track visitors.

Very ironic. Thankfully I have a browser plugin which protected me.

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

Yowsup has supported end-to-end encryption for a while now and WhatsApp have extended support for S40 until the end of 2018. It seems that plenty of people (but not all) have been using Yowsup...
