Looking at https://www.transifex.com/otsaloma/poor-maps/, I see "German (Germany) 100%". So I think this is not an issue, which could be fixed via transifex.

Today I finally had the opportunity to test navigation with PoorMaps (version 0.34) and OSM Scout Server.
It worked very well for me. :)
A few issues, which might be improved:

Thanks, I thought the "Search" input box was only for filtering the listed types. But you can enter the desired POI type there...

[SOLVED] Problem with call verification
I just had the same problem as @nodevel and managed to solve it this way:
I enabled app start on boot up (like nodevel)
then rebooted my device
started another android app in parallel to...
