Re: Rob's replacement for N950 - Photon Q?

Back to the drawing board on that idea.
Seriously... An overlay for the screen? Talk about totally missing the point of a hardware keyboard....

Re: Rob's replacement for N950 - Photon Q?

Well, at this point, I need something usable before September. So no waiting for vaporware.
One thing I need to do is record an hour or two of video at a time(external battery pack OK) at the end of...

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

It's been a while I guess... but I'm thinking that was a sparse file.
Sparse files only take up as much room as the data inside them does on disk, everything else is 0x00. Putting it in an...

Rob's replacement for N950 - Photon Q?

OK, guys.
Last night, I cracked the glass on my N950. I've been using it for a phone and my N900 for a tablet/ssh/music etc.
My N950 still works, but I need to replace it soon if I don't want the...

Re: [Tablet] Jolla's "tablet cover" - Ideas and Suggestions

Personally, I'd love to have a keyboard 'other half' for the tablet -- Like the N900, having a keyboard turns it into a 'development' device from a 'consumption' device.
Alternately, a *huge*...

Re: [Pre-Pre-Pre Announce]Black Aluminium replacement body & backcover for N900

I've been thinking about this and I may be able to create a model for others here, once the G-code is posted.
I have access to Mastercam at work, and I think I may be able to back-plot code into a...

Re: [Pre-Pre-Pre Announce]Black Aluminium replacement body & backcover for N900

How about the model itself?
Also, seeing as you made your prototype on a CNC Mill, I'd be interesting in seeing pictures of your hold-downs(especially for your second side/OP2; did you use a web of...

Re: [Pre-Pre-Pre Announce]Black Aluminium replacement body & backcover for N900

Have any 3D models or CAD drawings? I'd love to mess with making my own, or something similar... Or even just seeing what I can come up with.
(18650 li-on batteries instead, anyone? )

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

Hm, if this can be done for a reasonable price, I'd be interested... in a replacement board. I've already got two 'broken' devices, so all I'd want is a board.

Heck, I'd be happy with a N900 board...

Re: Ubuntu Edge

That being said, we need at least 'semi-open' drivers(Not sure the correct term here) like Nvidia does on the desktop: Closed userspace blob, open kernel module. This means we can always patch/tweak...

Re: test coomand in linux

it:
1. Is run by /bin/sh
2. Checks if /bin/bash exists, and prints a message if it does
3. Checks if /bib/bash is a directory, prints a message if it is, and another if it isn't.

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

I'd appreciate it(and feel indebted to you guys).
You guys all have done plenty for me already, though, so don't feel you have to do anything.

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

Dangit, sorry guys. I keep neglecting you all. I suppose I'm going to just have to sit down and see if I can't fix up my N900 with the broken USB port, so I can test with it... I don't see myself...

Re: How can I clone my N900?

Just flash the stock kernel to the new device, then restore your backup images. With PK, at least, the stock kernel's modules still exist on the rootfs, so it'll boot with either the PK kernel...

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

Unfortunately, things are going to have to wait for a bit. I have to figure out /how/ to get things uploaded to extras-devel again, after the server move - I used to use the web-based form, but it...

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

In that case, the fix is simple - inside extrafiles.tar.gz there's a text file with all the files to be in the new chroot. add it to the file, recompress the .gz and you should be good to go

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

Hm, this is interesting. I probably should get myself a spare N900 so I can do some devel work... I don't have the time to finish a "code -> debug -> get working" cycle in one day anymore(and...

Re: [Board] TMO forums donated to Hildon Foundation

So, you need a US host. Is this a problem? US hosts are often quite cheap, and with paypal, you should be able to pay for it from outside the US. If they need a real US address, I'm sure there's a...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

To be honest, I think the best way to implement multitasking is simply to have it N900 "like" - Applications can run in the background as needed, no specific limits on anything.

But I'd also add...

Re: Using n900 24/7 w/ charger w/o usb-port

To be honest, what I'd do: 1, grab a DC-DC buck/boost module off Ebay(1-3A rated). Should be around $10, and you can set the output to 4.0V or so.
Then, pick up one of those external USB backup...

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

Ah, /that/ makes sense - It's considering the /etc/bootmenu files to be 'config' files, and thus won't overwrite them. However, well, we need them overwritten...

Re: What can i do with my Extra N900, something really "neat", inspiration needed

I was thinking of something along the lines of a Home Automation server: With some tweaking and a custom cable, you should be able to rig up a USB hub for hostmode use and charge at the same time....

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

Hm, this is interesting, because this is exactly what it used to do to me, which was why I only recently updated the bootmenu module to work with backupmenu "correctly".

Try a apt-get update &&...

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

Yeah, blank screen means no Power Kernel. In theory, you could run commands blindly, but that's nigh impossible.

I'd either buy a new one, or if you have hard-to-replace data on it, talk to Estel....

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

If you've got Power Kernel installed, you can use the root terminal mode to see if you can't manually repair it.

To be honest, though, I'd just buy another; you need a USB port to do much of...
