Re: [Rumor] Nokia N8 ?

Really. Perhaps you'd wish to elaborate.

Re: Meego: Goodbye Mozilla, hello Webkit!

I've always preferred Konqueror, so not me. Unfortunately KHTML is getting so dated I'm forced to use Firefox on the desktop, but more people working on WebKit can't hurt at least.

Re: Why does NOKIA invest more money in N97 rather than N900?

You are in the minority here. The N900 is the most stable phone I have ever owned.

And isn't Orange a carrier notorious for screwing with the firmware? No wonder they're withdrawing the N97 if...

Re: Why does NOKIA invest more money in N97 rather than N900?

There are very few reasons to heavily advertise a device you can sell as fast as you can produce. The N900 was never supposed to be manufactured in as large quantities as the N97, and you can't...

Re: getting a bit hacked off with nokia!! :(

How does that change the validity of the resolution argument? The (lack of) game complexity mostly affects the CPU, whereas the GPU still has to draw 2,5 times* as many pixels to the screen.

Re: Will MeeGo finally end the Rapid Obsolescence Syndrome (ROS)

Maybe the closed vendor is just so much cheaper that Nokia can't afford to look elsewhere? On the other hand, their scale gives them significant leverage.

Re: Will MeeGo finally end the Rapid Obsolescence Syndrome (ROS)

I wasn't trying to imply you don't. I really do appreciate your (previous) efforts, like I said. You just sounded like you'd given up on certain vendors. Maybe Intel could threaten to make an SoC...

Re: Orange is getting into MeeGo!

True, we shouldn't always jump to the worst conclusions, and dwelling only on the negative never got anyone anywhere. Let's see what happens. I know I need to look at the bright side a bit more...

Re: Orange is getting into MeeGo!

But this is a contradiction. If more work goes into a product, it can't possibly be cheaper. The obvious answer is that they expect to be able to gouge you for something else in the future if they...

Re: Will MeeGo finally end the Rapid Obsolescence Syndrome (ROS)

That's nice and I (we?) appreciate your efforts, but please also try to get them to actually open source their drivers. That's the ultimate solution I'm sure most of us are hoping for.

Alpine and Ovi Maps to collaborate, Hitler takes own life

Alpine has just announced a new "Terminal mode" for its car systems, which will allow smartphones to display maps and driving-related widgets on larger screens.

Re: Smart-phone Operating Systems and how they affect the availability of third party applications, thus making devices less useful for consumers.

I skimmed it. You could separate the technical stuff into a different article with anchors, and link to them when you need to justify something. A shorter version with lots of bullet points and...

Re: Smart-phone Operating Systems and how they affect the availability of third party applications, thus making devices less useful for consumers.

Your article is so long it will only be read by people who already know how things work.

Edit: but I agree with your objective.

Re: Calling for all ipod/iphone owners & bb users opinion

I don't understand. S60 has had MSN Messenger for a long time, and Ovi uses a standardized protocol, but people would rather have a proprietary chat system developed only for a single type of phone....

Re: N900: the second generation

Maemo 5 supports portrait mode already. If those new apps written using Qt implement it, it will work.

And really, all this complaining about what OS version number your device is on is...

Re: Install bash?

Holy crap, that's not everything. I just went to packages.debian.org and clicking on a deb lets you open it with app manager. This is really dangerous.

Re: Nokia CEO not happy being beaten by the iPhone (was: Nodia CEO...)

It attracted a huge amount of negative publicity in the beginning, but it works flawlessly on my 5800. All it needs is more apps, which is really puzzling considering Nokia's market share. It's...

Re: is that true? the next N9** will use Intel CPU?

You could be right, but all Nokia needs to do is require that all Ovi apps be compiled for both. It's a non-issue for any competent developer. I don't see why they wouldn't do it. Open source...

Re: Nokia CEO not happy being beaten by the iPhone (was: Nodia CEO...)

The incentive is Symbian and its market share. Any new apps are supposed to use Qt. If Nokia can make developers realize this, they will attract many of the best.

Re: is that true? the next N9** will use Intel CPU?

This is why we have a package manager.

I predict MeeGo will end up on ARM phones and x86 netbooks/tablets, completely transparent to the user. In 5 years, maybe x86 will have the advantage on...

Re: Why is Apple against porn

I believe Nokia would do the same too, but that's exactly why we need to support Free platforms. If a business is risking a boycott by allowing "objectionable" apps, then its duty to its...

Re: Nokia X10 Rumours

If they recognized the problem when the iPhone was launched, they've now had 1 year to regroup, and 2 years to design new phones. The way things work, we may in fact be set for some rather...
