Re: WhoGo Maps

Congrats on this release, it feels full-featured and polished.

Tested it on a OnePlus X with the 2.1.3.7 update and no connectivity. Off-line routing and real-time rerouting using OSM scout server...

Re: Do people in your country talk openly of their salaries?

Another American here and I agree. Americans are famous for defining themselves by the work they do. But, paradoxically, discussing salary is considered verboten.

Public sector employee salaries...

Re: Sailfish X mms not working on MetroPCS

I can confirm that fast.tmobile.com works great on my Nexus 5 with SFOS, but inconsistently on my Xperia X with SFOS.

My observations:

Nexus 5 - I get advertised LTE data speeds on fast. For...

Re: Sailfish X mms not working on MetroPCS

I don't think it's from your end.

On Sailfish using T-mobile USA, the "fast.tmobile.com" APN does not work for MMS, but the "epc.tmobile.com" APN does.

It sounds like MetroPCS is using...

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia X (community build)

On Opera, I remember having to play around with the proxy VPN country (I think it was either Germany or the Netherlands, I don't remember which one). After which, a Travelex Money Card...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

I appreciate the response. I will go ahead and try the linux install using the recommended files.

Regarding US standards: it's frustrating that Jolla does not put in more (i.e., any) effort in...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

I don't. But since US telecoms deploy a breathtaking patchwork of LTE bands specific to North America where the required band may differ from region to region even on the same provider, I am hoping...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

I can confirm that Opera VPN + Travelex card purchased in the USA works.

For others based in the US, did you flash Sailfish X on top of the USA-localized android firmware image, or on top of the...

Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release

I do think Anbox is a tantalizing potential way forward as an alternative to Alien Dalvik. I'm willing to donate a device to the developers, if that would help with the work...

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia (official)

If Jolla is providing the devices themselves, then it is a moot point. But if it will be a "flash your own device" situation, I do hope that the F5121 North America variant (i.e., with the North...

Re: BL-5J in the US?

Of the replacement battery manufacturers, SCUD seems to have a good reputation. You would probably have to order via an international seller, though...

Re: Run AlienDalvik on Nexus 4

It looks like folks on the OnePlus One SFOS thread at the OnePlus forums have made some progress with the OPO (some of it works, but buggy, apparently). I do not know enough to know how relevant...

Re: AT&T has turned off 2g in USA

Yes, I can confirm that this has happened in my metro area. T-mobile is the only major mobile carrier that has the bands that support the N900. Alternatively, users can also choose an MVNO that...

I agree with this. I think that work on the various SFOS adaptations, and sfdroid is of interest to many in the community. Projects that result in concrete capability advancements in this space...

Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus 5 CM12.1 Alpha1 | Sfdroid Pre-Alpha/Early Preview

I use the latest version of Poor Maps.

The Nexus 5 is really nice on paper, and when it works. But it seems like you don't know what you are going to get with the hardware. I've returned one...

Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus 5 CM12.1 Alpha1 | Sfdroid Pre-Alpha/Early Preview

Thank you. I was able to successfully edit gps.conf in vi.

Agps now seems to work for me (i.e., I can generally get a fix in seconds now, compared to several minutes with gps only), with a change...

Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus 5 CM12.1 Alpha1 | Sfdroid Pre-Alpha/Early Preview

I'd like to edit gps.conf to see if editing the NTP Server makes a difference (the default already points to the google supl server), but /system/etc/ appears to be a read-only folder. Any thoughts...

Re: Nokia N810 WiMAX on Capitol Hill (Washington, DC)

Step 4.1 of 6?

But those speeds seem pretty good for 8 year old deprecated technology...

(Edit to add: you still don't always get those speeds consistently on LTE in Metro DC)

Re: Fairphone

I'm planning on giving this a go soon. My device is currently on FP Open 16.09. Is it recommended that I downgrade down to 16.06 before installing the SFOS image?

Using it now. Feels a little more resource hungry than previous versions, but still a mostly good experience, with a few of the usual quirks.

Thank you, elros34, for your patches by the way. They...
