Honestly, that is a much larger question, which I cannot answer. But an unlockable bootloader would help as a first step — preferably one where usage of which doesn't invalidate the warranty....

I just checked my last 25 emails. All 25 of them were HTML emails (and not spam).

Also, the N9 email client itself generates and sends HTML emails.

Seems strange for the client to render emails...
