The browser (called Grob) is based on Webkit instead of gecko. I like Firefox, but it was a huge monster, always-on, in previous Maemos, so it's a good thing to see it.

Take into account the X server nowadays, doesn't run on a TTY anymore. Just check with "ps waux" and you will see a '?' on the TTY field meaning they haven't any attached.

All the programs you run on N900 has probably the same TTY, so you will not see any improvements with this.

You can specify the folder where to install by passing dpkg the --instdir=<directory> option when instaling. But don't expect to be this a very good idea because of many reasons...

If not oficially supported, I don't know of any issue for hildon not compiling for MeeGo. Even if I thought hildon requiered a highly patched gtk+, also libhildon is already in Ubuntu repositories.

Copy the folder to the SD Card and symlink (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_link) it with the ln -s command. Should work...

If you have a strong background on C++, I suggest you go that way for Qt, since Qt is written in C++ and you are probably going to feel more confortably with it.

Similarly to what happened to Maemo5, Meego probably is not going to be on par with Maemo 5 feature wise until next year so I wouldn't kill Maemo 5 so early.

My though is that Nokia should be porting Ovi Maps to Qt for use on all their devices so if not on PR1.2, but in a not so distant future, we are going to have a complete Ovi Maps on N900
