This is normal if the battery is old. Even if you plug the charger the device relies on its battery for power and an old battery would fail on big loads (such as the load during the boot process).

What about backporting the MeeGo packages to Diablo? Wouldn't this be both easier and more useful? I mean this approach will give you full hardware support and combined Diablo+MeeGo compatibility.

You don't have to use your N810 in order to charge your batteries - you can use a separate charger...
