It doesn't. But once your fans, your marketing material and your community starts to tout how "open" you are, later to circle back and betray that notion, it makes it that much easier to poke fun at the hypocritical stance that the platform once had.
Base and Middle-ware's still basically just as open/closed. UI's a bit more closed than Maemo, but it's not as though Maemo's UI was ever a 'beacon of openness'. Plus if you'd made any attempt at following developments in the MeeGo community. You'd know that the closed UI's somewhat of a misnomer, based on developments actually occurring wrt that. But I'll let you read-up to understand what I'm talking about there.
