It's still basically the same as far I've seen so far...

Base and Middle-ware's still basically just as open/closed.
UI's a bit more closed than Maemo, but it's not as though Maemo's UI was ever a 'beacon of openness'.
Plus if you'd made any attempt at following developments in the MeeGo community.
You'd know that the closed UI's somewhat of a misnomer, based on developments actually occurring wrt that.
But I'll let you read-up to understand what I'm talking about there.
Pointing finger at Android saying it's not open, yet you're not open is like pointing fingers at a person for being a stoner while smoking medicinal marijuana yourself (hyperbole intended)
Are you trying suggest Android is as open as Maemo/MeeGo?
Not that it's as huge a point for me, as it seemingly is for you.
