The extra measures for system integrity, using transactions, do take little more time. But on the other hand, for example if you are doing this wireless with a laptop and battery goes empty middle of upgrading, transaction-support save the day and the system.

Haven't really needed to rollback ever yet, but its nice to have that too.

I haven't found it to be slow. The previous quote shows how much CPU-time upgrading 79 packages took, not much.

The actual time was long, because the system was downloading packages over slow net bandwidth.
