I use arch and maintain a few packages so i fully understand its merits. my point was more of a third party consideration further down the line.

take iOS. development is easier because its locked down hardware with set s/w versions. android on the other hand has multiple versions, multiple h/w configurations etc so developing anything closed source requires more model/version specific changes, testing etc. At present we only have n900, but what happens further on if we want to port to other devices and commercial vendors take interest.
