and also thanks for answering my questions again. Just checked and YES I did enable passive mode. well i decided to uninstall both ftp apps and install them again just to be sure. will see...anyway thanks for trying to help me.

also, did you try? ftp clients for n900 are quite old

I use n900ftp i know this one work, even if quite hard to use.

EDIT: you can also look at your server log to see what happens when you try to connect
