Hah! A typical manager! From an employee's perspective - we had RFID-operated door locks at one of my former jobs. The tags were at first in the shape of key fobs, later replaced with credit-card style IDs with your name and photo. The idea was sound: they opened the door for you, registered your time of coming to and leaving work, and you could use them to pay for your lunch at the canteen. From the reliability point of view they were absolutely appalling. They were supposed to work from a comfortable distance, but most of the time they needed to be pressed hard against the sensor to work at all. On the third or fourth attempt, if it happened to be Tuesday after the full moon and you rubbed it against your shirt in just the right speed and direction. The key fob style worked marginally better but the management and the HR obviously insisted on using the card ID style. Future has some time to arrive properly.
