I've gone to the pony swim three times in the past. This year we missed it by a couple of days on purpose to avoid the crowds. But it is a great event. They swim across a narrow waterway and then march to the down town area, guided by Salt Water Cowboys. It is majestic sight to see the wide ponies parade down the town's main street and then to the carnival grounds. Then next morning some of the ponies are auctioned off to raise money for the local fire department. All the ponies are given their yearly check up by veterinarians. The following day they cross back to the island they came from.
