I didn't understand why you were asking about the notification LED at the time.
I just made a search and discovered there were phone without it selling now...
It never crossed my mind you could make a phone without it ! I think all my phones since 15 years got one, even on the pre-smartphone era for SMS notification...

And as always, chen has our back, already trying to do it
