I've written something in MATLAB (I want to be able to scan book barcodes and compare them to a database of my books) if you're interested. I'm planning on 'porting' it to Python, which shouldn't be too painful, I've just not got round to it yet. Give me a shout if you'd like to see the MATLAB code and get it working on the device.
