Yes, most do support it (and I have set up a file transfer proxy on the Jablet server as well). I'm unsure if it will work over the IM gateway protocols, but I know it works Jabber to Jabber.

The tablet Jabber client does not appear to support file transfers at all (at least, I wasn't able to find a way to send a file).
