Resistive is the way to go. I had iphone and htc with capacitive displays and I didn't like them much. All devices before were with resistive and n900 after also. And I like it more. Multitouch means nothing to me an it can be implemented in resistive also. The only advantage of capacitive is that they are much more durable. But comparing resistive on n900 with the one on former p990, this one is almost unscratchable.
But capacitive with decent stylus would do also. And I think that we will see more and more devices with HW keyboard and stylus in the future. That iPhone philosophy won't last forever.
