Don't know what you should do, because I haven't tried this guide and I don't know if it still works. But what at least doesn't work, is downloads.maemo.nokia.com servers. So at first, you should check your repositories and set them accordingly.

edit: Do you have the power kernel installed? And did you download the packages attached to the first post of this thread? Looks like something was missing so dpkg couldn't install them and started to download them from wrong repos. And this is where the connection timed out. But your problem isn't the timeout, nor the repos (although you should set them correctly to use the device), but something is wrong with those packages you tried to install with dpkg.
