I installed gconf-editor as you suggested and the entries for the rdesktop key are shown below.

I reset the server keys to match my IP.
Initially it didn't appear to solve the issue but I ran

gconftool -u /apps/rdesktop/load_prof

again and that appears to have cleared the loadprof 8 entry.

In any case the issue seems to be resolved without having to reflash. Thanks a lot for your patience and help

P.S. Out of curiosity what does the load_prof key do?
