You cannot change anything as the application is closed source ... but that's strange about not being able to open Ovi Maps
try to reinstall the following packages:

How can I do that?
The following servers fail when trying to update (names
translated from German):
Nokia applications,
Nokia Systemsoftware update
Ovi

I guess servers are also offline.

syslog install with apt-get also does not work
"Couldn't find package syklogd"
Tried that on my 2nd N900: same error message.
