N900 would never die if its source was open. People would still turn on their old devices, knowing they can do anything (zombo.com) with them. N900 will die like 800... In a year (maybe less) all progs out there will require newer stdlibc++, libglib... there will be hardly anything that compiles for N900 out of the box. As no continuation is there... people will move to semi-solutions that address one or other point. This is why I believe opensourcing is still critical for Fremantle/N900. Sure it will not guarantee newer/faster/better devices. But would keep us from slowly becoming irrelevant as crucial parts of the system are becoming dinosaurs. Sure we will not be able to bring Fremantle to quad-core devices, but we'd keep ability to compile/run the apps that do not require four cores, council has got better ideas to look after though it seems
