watch -t -n 1 cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq
To observe your CPU speed without the overhead of conky. Remember to ctrl+c quit before you close or it will run in the background keeping your CPU out of C4.
