i filed a bug about problems with mails that contain multipart/alternative a while ago. my problem wasn't quite what you describe, but as you mention multipart/alternative, the bugs may be related. unfortunately, the bug is still in status 'unconfirmed' and i don't see any activity. https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8162
