Any idea? Suggestions?
Quick reply...

I will look up auditd, if I have time.

I have some experience installing Debian packages on N900 (aka: I installed XPaint that way), but the most likely problem is dependencies. First, you need to find which version (stable, wheezy, whatever) depends on suitable (same as in Maemo) versions of "basic" things (like, libc6, or something). Second, you need to find which packages are required for the XXX package, but do not exist in Maemo repositories yet, and get them from Debian repository, too.

Success is very unlikely if the second step has lots of unknown packages, simply because these unknown packages will pull their own dependencies, and then one of this bazillion of Debian packages will conflict Maemo's packages, in one way or another.

[Edit]Right now, the most nasty-looking of dependencies is "MIT Kerberos runtime libraries", simply because it's KerberOS : https://packages.debian.org/sid/auditd
No, I haven't done the first step, yet. I just jumped straight into second step.

Best wishes.
