It's quite a simple example widget, so it first waits for geolocation and then creates the map context based on the location. So if it doesn't get geolocation or internet access it might just stick with plain window... Also, due to a bug in QtWebkit it crashes randomly (issue has been reported by others too, see http://crochik.com/webview/ for example), something I haven't witnessed with any other widgets so far.
