Okay just had a look at this on Linux with 2.0.1 - wow! They've really changed the interfaces.

There are significant changes to the way that VLC needs to be configured to support HTTP control and also they have changed the structure of the messaging they use.

Looks like you need to edit the ../lua/http/.hosts file to whitelist any IPs you want to connect from and also teh way the interface is enabled has been changed as well in VLC settings/preferences.

Even once configured the changes in the messaging format mean it's still pretty unusable - although I have been able to control playback, volume, playlist etc. Haven't worked out if media browsing requires some additional config on the server or not (but isn't working on the client).

Looks like a new version of VLC-remote would be required to support VLC 2.0+
