I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. It's still supported so I saw no real need to change.

Everything I did in regards to screen rotation and such is pretty much based on this thread.

Also, at the time I installed ubuntu I used wubi. I'm set to dual boot ubuntu and windows 7 (need it for my job...)
