I'm also kind of shocked by the lack of numbers in moderators here. I can understand the potential fear of losing some degree of openness, but I think that has more to do with choosing the right moderators than it does having moderators at all.

If you let the inmates help run the asylum for too long, eventually all the doctors are going to leave.


Now, that said, there probably needs to be a clearer (or more accessible - I couldn't find any) set of rules for the forum first so prospective moderators have a good idea of what they need to enforce. We don't need well-intentioned but misguided folks banning every thread on the iPad, for example...
