Thank you for this! I managed to boot Linux Mint 18.1 with quiet splash removed and i915.fastboot=1 video=1280x800@60 added. I noticed the screen won't turn and I have't tried installing but at least now there's a way to use GParted for e.g. enlarging the sailfishos partition size if needed.
