Move to services and content business might be viable economically as bean counters just love the idea of selling something that does not diminish when sold, being able to sell the same old s**t over and over again the next day. Much better than selling a block of molecules arranged in a particular complex way which is *gone* from their hands the second it is sold!
I bet they wet their pants in expectation!!!

However generally for technological advancement of humankind this is a bad step... since we still need the hardware too.
When all manufacturing has transmogrified into churning out intangibles the civilization collapses...

(which eventually might turn out to be a good thing after all, hmm?)
