You can't break anything physically, you can only loose data and your time (well, excessive overclocking could damage your hardware) This should take care of any data on the phone (flashing the whole memory). rooting the device is super easy, check the wiki for 'root', 'extra' and 'devel'. then you can play with the rest (see their respective wiki/threads)
