The strange thing is, I click "PLAY" and media player starts to play a song but shows the Unable to perform. Doesn't update media collection and so. Can just play and show error info, that is the simplicity I need, eeek.

XMMS looks like good alternative but I would like my media player to be healthy even if I don't use it.
Actually...
I was just pondering your prob with the stock media player.
The stock isn't all that bad a player ...it does the job adequately enough..
It isn't a kilikali ...oscp...or xmms though...(as far as audio goes that is..) or mplayer or kmplayer for that matter (Both of which are great for video..)

Sooooo...
I was looking at what you wrote Ridd...
(hahahaha "wrote Ridd" ...sounds hilarious when said... )
and I would ask...
do you have the additional tweekage done ?
ie: diablo turbo, community, all the bells and whistles?
because it seems to me that stock players inability to play is rooted in the issue of the crawler :
A- not completing its task ..
or
B- being interrupted in its duty..(it can take a LONG time to do its job..)
or
C- not initiated in the first place
(possibly the process is killed before it even begins...either deliberately or not...it is a resource hog letting it check all the time...so disabling it will gain you battery life but at the cost of a few things ...one being the stock player can be affected )

I would suggest taking a looky loo inside the ASUI and check the crawler setting..you can enable and disable it at a clickable convenience...
This is handy to :
A- keep the battery consumption lean and mean
B- great to impede the crawler from spending resources doing its intended job ...especially if one has a TON of media files for it to crawl through ...it can take a long time to complete its task..

I find the crawler is great when I don't have a lot of media on device or card or accessible to the crawler...
Then the sucker is quick and efficient ...
But ..for me I tend to have 32 -64 gb of books, audio books, artwork I am working on, audio, and film...
So ..the crawler impedes me consequently ..
and I resort to shutting the process down and using an alternative ...(xmms, oscp, etc) to do the job instead.
