I asked Quim about access to the Ovi Maps data as some kind of gesture of goodwill from Nokia after the Ovi Maps fiasco. The reply really wasn't very encouraging: there's apparently an API and you can get limited access to the data if you sign your soul over and sacrifice 3 virgins. Or something like that.

It really would be neat to see 3rd party apps accessing the Ovi map data and generating routing and tile data offline, wouldn't it?

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?
