edit: i managed to move the file in xterm, but i still want to be able to use the mc on my N900, so the problem is the same

you want to start mc as root.
just type "mc" after "sudo gainroot" into an x-terminal.
there's also a way to create a menu item which starts mc as root, but i wouldn't recommend that. it's just too easy to f*ck up your device with a rooted mc.
