Of course it's possible, but the question is how playable it will be. Anything below 10fps should be considered as moving pictures, and nothing else.

Even if it was final N900 will not run it 100% perfectly because of the 256mb. iPhone 3gs can't even run them perfectly. Only system that has at this moment is the HTC HD2 because of its awesome speed power.

It might be able to run it quick but that would be annoying trying to control it via the screen!

If they managed to figure out how to use the dedicated dsp for the emulators I think you would see similar performance from the 3GS or the N900.

Yes, the mhz of the CPU comes into play due to emulation loving every cycle it can get. If the 3430's DSP and GPU could be leveraged for use, the 3430 should be just as good as Snap. As far as the 256mb is concerned, please consider the PS1 only has a few megs of ram for operation. Of course, the 256mb in the N900 would also have to reside the actual emulator platform.

A good example of leveraging power is the DS. The dev that created the Neo Geo emulator uses the dual 3d chips in the DS to emulate every game at 60 fps with sound. Even KOF 2001 and Metal Slug 5 play perfectly on the DS. All due to the dev leveraging what the device has. Neo Geo is of course 2D, but the dev used the resources of the 3D chips for the 2D.
